Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Who is allowed to use a golf membership?

A:  Golf memberships are held in the name of the individual (male or female) primary member. Each primary member decides whether to include their spouse or children, when applicable, on a year to year basis as golf members.

Even if spouses are not golf members, they enjoy full social membership privileges.  Members have the right to bring guests in compliance with club regulations.

Q:  Is the intiation fee for new members refundable or non-refundable?

A:  Please refer to the Membership Application, as Old Oakland offers several different intiation fee payment plans, some of which offer refunds.

Q:  Is Old Oakland Golf Club an equity or non-equity club?

A:  Old Oakland is a non-equity club.

Q:  Do members have input on the operations of the club?

A:  Yes.  Although there is not a Board of Directors, member's ideas and suggestions are always welcome.  Through monthly newsletters and regular questionnaires, Old Oakland emphasizes good communication for continuing club improvements.

Some of the member's past comments have been responsible for changes in areas such as clubhouse usage, food services, golf rule changes, new nine holes, and golf tournament schedules.

Q:  Are golf carts mandatory?

A:  No.  The use of golf cars is optional.  Many members and their guests choose to walk - either carrying their bag or pulling a cart.

Q:  Are golf outing allowed at the club?

A:  Yes.  Members are permitted to sponsor their own private outings depending upon available times.  These tournaments are usually held on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons.

Q:  Are Old Oakland Golf Club and the Oakland Hills at Geist residential community under the same ownership?

A:  Yes.  Both are owned and managed by the same locally based and family owned companies.  Oakland Hills at Geist is essentially a golf club community with over half of the remaining homesites located on the golf course.

Q:  Are separate social memberships available?

A:  Yes.  Social members enjoy the food services, the social calendar events and the opportunity to host their own private parties.
